As someone new in the nightlife entertainment without a large social media following, a wide network of friends in the DJ industry, an agency, a mentor, and the like, that would easily catapult me to the frontlines of the local nightlife scene, it’s a pretty slim chance for me to land a headlining gig at bigger club venues and events. Yet, I’m here to prove that even without these traditional advantages, passion, hustle, and the right support system can take you places.
That’s what made my recent gig at La Jefa Club in Bacolod City remarkable.

La Jefa Club (@lajefapubclub) is becoming one of the hottest spots in Bacolod today. It’s a high-end venue that promises to elevate the city’s party scene. The vibe is vibin’ in La Jefa! 🔥🔥 It has a crowd that appreciates not just commercial tracks, but also an out of the ordinary ones. Such an exciting place for any DJ who plays there! And for someone like me, still carving my name in the industry, getting a chance to headline at a club like La Jefa, it felt like a massive step forward.
I arrived on a Friday night, and I was already eager to soak in the night vibe of the City of Smiles and the club, so I went there right after I settled in. And wow, did Bacolod City bring it!
Together with their resident DJs and La Jefa’s regular guest DJ, Eric Gella (@djericgella), we partied with the crowd until dawn. Gosh, they even brought a bottle of whiskey on the table! It was such a very heartwarming welcome on a night that was wild, chaotic, and beautiful all at once. Music does bring people together! 😊 Thank you guysss — @fritchela, @juanmarcoantonio, @djdanieltan, @poipequiz.dj, and @mc.dj_bien for the overwhelming hospitality.

Saturday came around, and DJ Daniel Tan opened the house. Goddamn, he killed it! It was lit! 🔥 His set was very impressive. Even though I was so nervous at that time, it pushed me to think deeply about how I could enhance my own sets, especially that I love opening houses. Every opening set really has its magic, its own unique role in building the energy for the night, and boyy, that set inspired me to do better.
But, of course, there’s a different kind of thrill when you’re stepping into the spotlight as a headliner. That feeling of owning the room, of taking an unfamiliar crowd on a journey from the first beat to the last drop, is something I’ve always yearned for. Getting the opportunity to headline at La Jefa was my shot at living that dream, even if just for one night.
I gave everything I had on that set. I wanted the crowd to feel that raw passion, to understand that even without a big name, I belong there on that stage. And from the energy I felt coming back from the crowd that night, I think they got the message. Ang sayaaa! A huge thanks to the beast behind the mic during my set, @mcjoms and @justinebugna for closing the night!

This La Jefa experience wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for Harvey who bridges the gap between me and Fritch at the Summerfrolic music festival! I owe this opportunity, not just to the both of them but to the entire team of La Jefa Club.
To reach this point, I’ve had to rely heavily on a small but solid network of people who’ve put their trust in me. They’re the ones who believe in my potential, even when the odds aren’t exactly in my favor. I can’t even begin to express how much respect and appreciation I have for these folks. Their support and belief in me have driven me to push beyond my limits and not settle for anything less than my best.
When I was up there, behind the decks, I was not just playing for myself—I was playing for them too. I genuinely felt how they celebrated female DJs on the La Jefa stage! It was very uplifting.
Playing in a new crowd, this La Jefa experience was a moment of validation– a reminder that every small step, every set, and every person who believes in you can bring you closer to your dreams.
Cheers to more nights like this, more stages to conquer, and more unforgettable moments behind the decks.
